EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, therapy seems to work on the brain like REM sleep to help you physically process a traumatic event in a less upsetting way. For more information, see the EMDR International Association's Web Site. For issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and trauma, EMDR has been shown to be effective.
Practitioners of Neurofeedback say that it is exercise for the brain. It's a painless, non-invasive brain-training intervention that appears to be like a video game to the person whose brain waves are being trained.
Neurofeedback is a specific form of biofeedback that can be effective for issues such as attachment disorders, ADD/ADHD and attention problems, PTSD and anxiety, depression, fatigue / sleep, pain, and more. Some people have used it to optimize their performance--such as athletes and executives / professionals.
The client experiences a calm, alert brain state through the computer / brain interface and the interaction with the trained clinician. The EEG records the real-time feedback of brainwave activity. There is sensory information to help the client achieve increasingly optimal neurological and emotional control.
